The Five Elements of Panchagavya, Explained

Panchagavya means, literally, five cow-derived things: dung, ghee, milk, urine, and curd. In Vedic tradition, the combination is treated as more than the sum of its parts — a purifying substance used in rituals, agriculture, and increasingly, in the kind of everyday wellness products we make.

Each element carries its own role. Cow dung, dried and worked into a base, is the structural heart of our dhoop cakes, sticks, and cones — it burns clean and slow. Ghee adds richness to the burn and rounds out the fragrance. Milk and curd bring a mildness that keeps the smoke gentle rather than acrid. Cow urine, distilled and used in small measure, has a long history in Ayurvedic formulations for its purifying properties.

None of this is folklore we take on faith alone — it is also simply what has worked, refined over generations of use in temples and homes across the subcontinent. We source every part of the blend from gaushalas we partner with directly, so the ingredients are traceable back to specific herds, not an anonymous supply chain.

When you light a Poojalaya product, you are lighting this five-part blend, shaped by hand into the cakes, cones, sticks, or cups that suit your ritual. It is the one ingredient list behind everything we make.
